Mind | Body | Stress Reduction

Cancer Support Community recognizes the role that stress reduction plays in recovering from the effects of cancer treatment. Designed to help promote a sense of relaxation and well being, we find that our participants enjoy these programs because it increases their sense of control and helps them live in the present moment. Similar to our other groups, stress reduction programs are offered at a variety of times to meet different schedules. See class offerings and descriptions below.

We offer a variety of Yoga classes at all four of our state wide locations. These classes are designed specifically to serve those affected by cancer by reducing stress, and enhancing focus and relaxation. Class offerings and times vary by location. Tai Chi
Tai Chi began as a martial art and as it developed, took on the purpose of enhancing physical and mental health. Practiced in a variety of styles, tai chi involves slow, gentle movements, deep breathing, and meditation. Tai chi strengthens balance, improves the flow of energy through the body, leading to greater awareness, calmness and an overall sense of wellness.  Class offerings and times vary by location. Discover the health benefits of meditation and experience how it reduces stress and enhances healing, focus and relaxation. This guided meditation class is perfect for the beginners and particularly beneficial during a cancer diagnosis. Class offerings and times vary by location. This fun, easy to follow class includes low impact dance with toning and balance exercises. Class is open to anyone at any fitness level and will be instructed to fit your ability and needs. (Offered in Kent County Only - see program calendar for times)
Dance has been known to help those in and beyond treatment to keep moving in a fun musical environment. Open to all levels. (Offered in New Castle County Only - see program calendar for times)
20/20/20 Fitness
Make the most out of your time! This class is three workouts in one, instructed by Stacy LaMotta of Healthy Renovations. It offers 20-minute intervals of ZUMBA Fitness, Strength & Core and Yoga Stretch. All levels are welcome! (Offered in Sussex County Only - see program calendar for times)
Poetry of Wellness
Maggie Rowe helps cancer survivors create beautiful words to frame their experiences. Come prepared to laugh and eat. Bring a dish to share.
Creative Journaling Circle
Join Barb Buford for an informal, fun and creative open art studio session. Create pages in your art journals using a monthly theme or prompt. No rules, just fun! Can't be with us? Just teleconference in from your own dining room table or art nook using your home computer. This program is made possible, in part, by the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing the arts in Delaware, in Partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com.
Knit Wits
Carol Post will guide new and experienced knitters through the basics of knitting. Everyone is welcome to join in! If you've never held knitting needles before, or if you're experienced, come spend a morning of relaxation, fun, and companionship. Offered in New Castle County Only.
